Now Cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic
We’re living in strange times; environmental disasters, mostly man made, have taken hold of our landscape over the last 6 months and now a global pandemic is stealthily accelerating. Our leaders seem only guided by markets for their purpose and the ‘Tragedy of the Commons is playing out on a global scale. So what is the point of painting abstract pictures; locked away in the studio, back turned to the world, in a tussle that has no relevance, no purpose. It’s not about beauty, that is too one dimensional, and certainly not about truth and meaning; that just parlays into dead ends and vacuous clichés.
So I muck around with these shitty mediums subjecting myself to the messy states that inevitably arise in the process; doubt, despair, discontent, hope, and at times anger? All I can do is keep going, striving after a form that somehow answers a question you don’t know the words for, keep going till some connection occurs which might look off kilter, slightly ugly, probably closer to failure than success and occasionally holds mystery and openness
